Dear John,
Happy new year and welcome to our first edition of The Forum in 2021. Based on popular demand, The Forum will be delivered to your inboxes monthly. We’re excited about this change and are looking forward to bringing you more timely news of our work.
To begin, we are hopeful about the future. After a historical inauguration, President Biden and Vice President Harris, a daughter of immigrants, made it clear that immigration is a top priority. On day one, the new President sent the most comprehensive immigration reform plan that we’ve seen in years along with a series of executive actions. To read the details of Biden’s plan, click here.
We welcome the Biden Administration’s promising actions, which we believe have the potential for bipartisan support in Congress. (Which, as you will see below, is supported by some of the
nation’s largest institutions.) Now, the real work begins. You can read more about our priorities here.
Despite this welcome change on the immigration front, we’re also aware of the challenges we still face. What happened at the Capitol on January 6th can’t be ignored. Our democracy is fragile, and we are committed to doing our part to strengthen it. More on that below.
We can’t improve immigration without you, John. Thank you for your continued support and happy reading!
With Appreciation,
Beth Sears Vice President & Chief of Strategic Partnerships
BIG NEWS: 180 faith, business and law enforcement leaders call for bipartisan reform
On the eve of President Biden’s inauguration, the Forum released a statement in collaboration with more than 180 faith, business and law enforcement organizations calling for bipartisan leadership to overhaul the nation’s outdated immigration system, prioritizing a pathway to citizenship for "Dreamers" brought to the U.S. as children. Signatories include Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Target, Best Buy, Chobani, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, National Association of Evangelicals, World
Vision and many more. The statement also got a spot in the New York Times – check it out!

INSIDER PERSPECTIVES: National Security and Immigration
The Forum is releasing a series of papers exploring the intersection between national security and immigration written by our senior advisor Elizabeth Neumann, former DHS Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism and Threat Prevention during the Trump administration. So far, we’ve made cases for rescinding the travel ban and restoring our refugee program and why it’s good for our national security.
Keep an eye out for the next paper in the series, coming soon!
TUNE IN: The First 100
This month, we kicked off our 4th season of Only in America with a series focused on what President-elect Biden’s first 100 days mean for the 117th Congress, how our immigration system could change in the early days and the implications for
longer-term, bipartisan solutions on key issues like DACA, border security and more.
We’ve had fantastic conversations across the series – and more to come!
Take a listen, then make sure to subscribe to never miss an episode!
MUST-READ: How to Revive Our Democracy
In a piece in The xxxxxx, Ali Noorani makes the case for how reforming our immigration system can help revive our democracy and revitalize our economy.
He states, "reforming our nation’s immigration system is about America’s leadership role in the world, the strength of our democracy, and our belief in freedom and opportunity... Creating equal and legal immigration pathways for workers and families serves the interests of the American worker and their family."

RETWEET: Urge Biden Administration to Give Path to Citizenship to DACA Recipients
One of our top priorities for the new Biden administration is to work with Congress to give DACA recipients an opportunity to earn legalization. A permanent legislative solution for Dreamers will provide stability and relief not only to the Dreamers themselves, but also to family members, friends, colleagues and employers who depend on them.
