One of freshman Congresswoman Cori Bush's first ever speeches in the House chamber was met with resounding ‘boos' from Republican lawmakers.
 
The cause for such an outcry? Bush brought what seems to be an uncomfortable truth for the GOP to the floor: “The 117th Congress must understand that we have a mandate to legislate in defense of black lives. The first step in that process is to root out white supremacy.”
 
In 2020, racial justice activist Cori Bush became the first Black woman to ever represent Missouri in Congress. She has refused to back down from her promise of bringing justice to the halls of our legislature, and after the attacks on the Capitol, she moved swiftly to introduce legislation to expel Republican representatives who incited the riots.
 
In undermining Bush's words in the House, the GOP has made it clear that white supremacy will continue to have a home in their party. As Cori Bush continues the fight for accountability and justice in Washington, we need to know if, despite her Republican detractors, she has the support of the American people.
