It’s official, John.

Last night, the article of impeachment was delivered to the Senate. Republicans are already trying to smear our calls for accountability, but we refuse to lose focus. 

Every single person who helped make the white supremacist attack on the Capitol possible must be held accountable. The Senate must vote to convict Donald J. Trump. While we wait for the trial to start, we also must work in Congress to pass Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s bill, the COUP Act, to launch an investigation into this attack and identify potential ties between Capitol police and insurrectionists.

In order for our country to heal and to move forward together from this attack, we first need to hold those accountable responsible for this attack. This requires us to find answers to these important questions: 

• Why was a mob of white nationalists able to easily breach our Capitol building?
• Why were so many insurrectionists able to walk away freely after participating in violent actions?
• What role did members of Congress play in assisting these insurrectionists plan this attack?
• What ties exist between Capitol police and white supremacists? How do we make sure we can redeem trust in our security measures again? 

That’s why Cori is supporting Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s new bill, the COUP Act, to create a commission to investigate and intercept police misconduct and incompetence on Capitol Hill. 

It’s clear that the GOP is terrified of the answers that will be found if the COUP Act passes. They’ve already launched a smear campaign against our efforts, but we will not stop fighting until accountability is served.
