ABORTION BILL WILL BE HEARD IN HOUSE COMMITTEE

Tomorrow the House Health & Human Services Committee will take up an abortion bill that would repeal a 1969 New Mexico law that outlaws abortion. That bill would allow late-term abortion and infanticide. The companion legislation (SB 10) has already passed a Senate committee and heads to another panel.

CALL TO ACTION: Contact lawmakers on the House Health & Human Services Committee and tell them this bill will not protect the unborn, women and health care professionals.

REPUBLICAN-SPONSORED BILL WOULD EASE TAX BURDEN ON THE ELDERLY

Five House Republicans are sponsoring a bill to exempt tax on social security income. HB 49 is designed to lessen the financial burden on New Mexicans collecting social security. This is a good bill that will allow senior citizens to keep more money. Right now New Mexico is one of 13 states that taxes that income. More and more seniors will choose to leave the state for places where social security income will not be taxed.
