Lead, and be counted, said the Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC)—and 10,000 nurses did just that. Congratulations to the 10,000 nurses who have joined boards and registered their roles with the NOBC, which had long aimed to hit that tally by 2020. Another 14,000 say they want to serve on a board. The numbers are great—check them out!
A Big Thanks to Nurse Anesthetists This Week, Their Week
“Safe and effective anesthesia care for every patient”: That’s the motto used by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. It’s also one of many reasons we thank certified registered nurse anesthetists—especially this time of year, during CRNA Week, January 24-30. Learn more about the heroics of more than 57,000 CRNAs in the U.S., and spread the thanks.
The Campaign
has long supported efforts to create a more diverse and inclusive nursing workforce, and its second Health Equity Action Forum builds on that to highlight how nursing is also a valuable career path for the same populations that benefit from better representation. The February 3 “Nursing as a Career to Achieve Financial Security” will combine perspectives from experts in multiple fields.
Bearing Witness”: Campaign Leaders Pay Homage in Annual Letter
In their New Year’s letter, Susan B. Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, Susan C. Reinhard, PhD, RN, FAAN, summarize the year just ended—the unimaginable heartache, hope, achievements and loss—and thank nurses for their all-important role. They look ahead, too, to the report due soon from the National Academy of Medicine, plans for how to implement new goals, and more.
Co-Chairs Bring Complementary Strengths to Equity Initiative
The co-chairs of the Campaign’s
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Steering Committee might have different approaches to how nursing can tackle racism and advance health equity. But Carmen Alvarez, PhD, CRNP, FAAN, and Eric J. Williams, DNP, RN, FAAN, share a goal as the two drive the initiative that includes Health Equity Action Forums and a nursing school mentor program.
Mark your calendars as the Campaign
prepares for the release of the National Academy of Medicine’s second future of nursing report, expected in May. Join us Feb. 24 as we honor the sacrifices and contributions made by nurses during these extraordinary times; recognize progress the Campaign and itsnetwork helped lead in the past decade, and anticipate the second future of nursing report that will set a path for nursing to improve the health and well-being of the U.S. population in the 21st century. Join us June 3-4 to plan that path.
People Come First: How Nursing Can Teach, and Learn, From Others
“The nursing tradition has a long legacy of putting people first,” writes Patricia A. Polansky, RN, MS, director of program development and implementation for the Campaign. Her work with the Campaign’s Population Health in Nursing team has allowed her to observe other fields that do so as well, and in an essay lays out how nursing might embrace its core principles in new ways.
