Hi John
My name is Brian Mecinas. I’m a first-generation Mexican-American, first-generation college student, and have lived in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District for most of my life.
As a member of the Latinx community, I used to be wary of politics. It seemed like just a race to gain power for those who were involved, rather than an effort to uplift community voices.
It seemed like politicians weren’t interested in listening to families that looked like mine. Freedom Caucus-member Rep. David Schweikert has yet to prove me wrong.
In a time of high anti-immigrant and anti-Latinx sentiment, we need a leader who respects and recognizes the value of our district’s diversity.
We need a leader with courage who listens and is willing to have difficult conversations.
This leader is Anita Malik. Will you join me in supporting her?
As the 2018 Democratic nominee in this district, she is poised to win in 2020 with our help. Can you chip in?

Rep. David Schweikert, on the other hand, refuses to listen to his over 100,000 Latinx constituents, instead choosing to align himself with industries and organizations that put our safety at risk.
- He refuses to demand bold, evidence-based solutions to address the climate crisis that disproportionately affects our communities of color, choosing to side with fossil fuel executives that pollute our air.
- He refuses to denounce the NRA, even after the tragedy that occurred in El Paso targeting Latinx-Americans.
- He refuses to make smart investments that will make health care more accessible to communities of color that are uninsured or cannot afford quality healthcare.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, I am asking you to chip in to help Anita uplift the voices of Latinx constituents in Congress. We need a leader who will stand up for all of us.
Necesitamos una Representativa que va luchar por nuestra communidad Latinx.
Saludos, Brian Mecinas Young Ambassador for the Smithsonian Institution Latino Center
