Dick Durbin

John,

Earlier this month, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump for the second time -- and yesterday, the House sent the Article of Impeachment over to the U.S. Senate.

While President Trump is no longer in office, it is still absolutely critical that the Senate proceeds with a trial. Trump’s actions posed a clear and present danger to our nation and democracy -- and we need to send a strong message that this behavior will not be tolerated in America.

If we want unity, we need accountability. The terrorists who raided the U.S. Capitol -- and the former President who incited them -- must be held accountable for the January 6 insurrection.

In addition, I am working to pass the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act. There is bipartisan support in Congress to investigate and expose white supremacists and stop homegrown terrorists in their tracks.

I am focused on ensuring that we can carry out our constitutional duties on impeachment while at the same time moving quickly to confirm President Biden’s Cabinet and get to work passing additional COVID-19 relief legislation.

I will keep you updated as things progress in the coming days, but I wanted to reach out and let you know where things stand now. I will keep working on your behalf every day in Washington.

My best,

Dick Durbin
