Join our training series for a new generation of leaders
If the past year and events have taught us anything, it is that we need to develop strategies and tools to empower our communities and increase our institutional power. To promote community organization and political education, Emgage Michigan is bringing to you our Emerging Leaders program - a comprehensive training series focused on educating aspiring leaders and community members to solidify our position as a change-making and engaged community. Join the four segments of our series:
1) How to Tell Your Story: There is little that beats the power of a personal narrative, connecting policy makers and people on a human and empathetic level. This training will educate and prepare you to refine and make use of your own personal narrative, one of the most powerful activism and policy-changing tools. The training will be led by renowned community leader, activist, and Founder of ABISA, Seydi Sarr. Join us on February 5th, from 5:30pm-7:30pm. REGISTER.
2) Policy and Lobbying: Navigating the legislative system, bringing changes to policy, and establishing networks aimed at strengthening the voice of your community can be complicated and nuanced. This training will educate you on our legislative process, policy-making, and the means to navigate through them. The training will be led by Iman Awad, Emgage Legislative Director and Deputy Director. Join us on February 11th, from 2:00pm-4:00pm. REGISTER.
3) Organizing 101: Organizing and activism are both crucial to sending policy makers a powerful message of unity. It is an important step in empowering the voices of your community and their political influence. This training will provide you with the knowledge to organize and empower your community members. The training will be led by the Emgage Organizing team, Aysha Ahmed and Mohamed Gula, who played an instrumental role in 2020's massive Muslim voter turnout. Join us on February 25th, 12:00pm-2:00pm. 4) How To Run for Office: It's crucial for a community to produce inspiring and effective leaders, as the influence and power of a community grows as its representation in government grows. This training will detail the steps to successfully run for public office and win. The training will be led by Aamina Ahmed of New American Leaders, an expert at providing aspiring public servants the tools and knowledge to run for office.
