John — The attack on the Capitol and Donald Trump’s ability to block the National Guard from protecting the more than 700,000 Americans who live in Washington, D.C. during the attack made one thing clear: Washington, D.C. and the hard-working, tax-paying Americans who live there deserve statehood. D.C. is home to a larger population than Vermont and Wyoming — The vast majority of D.C. residents are working class and do not work in politics or government (that is a GOP myth). If D.C. were to become a state, it would be the only majority Black state in the United States. To continue to deny hundreds of thousands of working class, Black Americans from having representation in Congress is a form of voter suppression and injustice.
