** When your entire world view is based on a fantasy, a report like this is meaningless...

E&E News ([link removed]) (1/25/21) reports: "Even as anticipation builds that President Biden will go big on building electric vehicle infrastructure, a new study out of California shows the need might be bigger than anyone thought. This study, an update by the California Energy Commission on the state's EV charging needs, is the first to try to game out the implications of Gov. Gavin Newsom's earthshaking order to ban the sale of internal-combustion engines by 2035. The short answer: Charging stations will need to propagate like rabbits, and electricity demand will drastically shift. The Golden State alone will need to have a total of 1.5 million EV chargers by 2030, or three times what Biden promised for the entire nation while on the campaign trail. It is unclear where the money will come from. Furthermore, a massive 15% surge of electricity demand could arrive at
midnight, when people are charging during off-peak hours. That could prompt a wholesale rethinking of how to move electricity around. The conclusions show 'we need to supercharge our efforts,' said Nancy Sutley, the chief sustainability officer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, on a webinar yesterday about California's 2035 goal. 'The needs,' she added, 'are evolving more quickly than we thought even a few months ago.'"

** "Rejoining the Paris Agreement will initiate efforts to dismantle two decades of American energy progress and record production levels – even though the United States simultaneously outperformed other major nations in reducing total carbon emissions...Shuttering American companies and killing jobs in Texas so career politicians like Secretary John Kerry can mingle in Paris, France is morally bankrupt."

It's official: Schumer wants the government to be able to ban your car. It's also official: Schumer is worried that AOC is going to primary him in 2022.
** The Hill ([link removed])
(1/25/2021) reports: "Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on Monday night that President Biden should consider declaring an emergency when it comes to the climate. 'It might be a good idea for President Biden to call a climate emergency,' Schumer told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow. Schumer appeared to be referencing Biden making a national emergency declaration, with the Senate leader noting that former President Trump used it for the border wall. 'He can do many, many things under the emergency powers ... that he could do without legislation,' Schumer added about what authority Biden would have if he used his emergency powers. 'Trump used this emergency for a stupid wall, which wasn't an emergency. But if there ever was an emergency, climate is one,' Schumer added. Declaring a national emergency would give Biden more leeway on combating climate change, including being able to direct additional funding. Schumer's suggestion is what many Republicans feared would happen the next time
a Democrat was in the White House after Trump used the emergency declaration to get more funding for the border wall in the face of congressional opposition."
In just the first week, Biden has killed union jobs and has attacked the economy and sovereignty of a Native American tribe. How's that unity thing going so far?
** Daily Caller ([link removed])
(1/24/2021) reports: "A Native American tribe in Utah said a Biden administration order blocking new permits to drill for oil and gas on federal lands is a 'direct attack' on its economy and sovereignty. The Ute Indian Tribe is seeking a waiver from Order 3395, which Scott de la Vega, the acting secretary of the interior, implemented on Jan. 21. The order pauses the issuance of new permits for oil and gas drilling on federal lands for 60 days. The order does not impact ongoing drilling, but President Joe Biden has said that he wants to ban drilling and fracking on all federal lands as part of a broader effort to fight climate change. Biden has also said that he is open to banning fracking altogether, even on private land. New Mexico Rep. Deb Haaland, who Biden has nominated to lead the Department of the Interior, has also said she is 'wholeheartedly against fracking and drilling on public lands.' While some Native tribes oppose energy drilling on their lands, the Ute tribe says that
drilling permits are vital to its economy. 'Your order is a direct attack on our economy, sovereignty, and our right to self-determination. Indian lands are not federal public lands,' Luke Duncan, the chairman of the Ute Indian Tribe Business Committee, wrote to de la Vega on Thursday."

If we can just get nighttime down to two minutes, utility-scale battery backup could be a game-changer for solar.

(1/22/21) blog: "Under the new administration of Pres. Joe Biden, more attention will be paid toward replacing the world’s finest electricity generating and distribution system with one that does not emit greenhouse gases (GHG). This brief does not consider the question of whether such a change is warranted, since that’s not being considered by the administration. They’re proposing to make reflexive changes instead. Some of their changes require relying more on intermittent energy sources such as solar and wind plants. The problem is, the new administration will be unable to change the laws of physics — and there’s no reaching a settlement out of that court. Having to deal with the swings in energy production from solar and wind is a hard reality...You might think that battery storage would provide power for the time when the sun doesn’t shine. You might think battery storage would eliminate the need for combustion turbines. You might think battery storage would lead to zero emissions of
GHGs. In all cases, you would be very wrong. You should recognize that you will be paying more for electricity. You should recognize that batteries are energy-intensive to manufacture, and they consume a large amount of our earth’s natural resources — even when only providing such miniscule amounts of power. You might even recognize that these batteries can be hazardous as they are prone to bursting into flames. In all of these cases, you would be correct."
