Dear John,

Today, the GLSEN Research Institute released our updated State Snapshots. These snapshots, based on the responses from our most recent National School Climate Survey, take a deep dive into the school experiences of LGBTQ+ students in 40 U.S. states.

Since its inception in 1999, GLSEN’s biennial National School Climate Survey — the only one of its kind — has documented LGBTQ+ students’ experiences across the U.S. Findings include details of the challenges students face and highlight their access, or lack thereof, to school-based resources that support their educational success and well-being.

The State Snapshots take a closer look at these experiences, at the state level. Are you aware that in Georgia, a vast majority of LGBTQ+ students hear anti-LGBTQ+ remarks at school? Or that only a third of LGBTQ+ students in Oregon schools are taught an LGBTQ+-inclusive curriculum? All 40 of our State Snapshots shed light on the day-to-day school realities of LGBTQ+ youth. We hope this new state-specific data will serve as a powerful tool to help advocates, educators, and policymakers promote safer school climates.

To promote the release of the new State Snapshots and the launch of GLSEN’s National Safe Learning Partnership Webinar Series, we will join GLSEN Public Policy for a webinar tomorrow, to discuss how to use this data to advocate for state and local policy change.

Find your snapshot today and join us tomorrow, January 27 at 5pm EST to learn how to use data to advocate for safe and inclusive schools in your area!

Sincerely,
Joseph Kosciw, Ph.D.
