- Sunday, January 31st, 9 AM: DxE Circle: Sanctuary Work Party - Carla will be hosting a circle event where we volunteer at local sanctuaries at least one day per month and up to three days depending on their needs. This month's event will be at One Living Sanctuary. We will help with chores around the sanctuary. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, jeans are best, work boots, and gloves. There will be simple jobs, dirty jobs as well as jobs that may require a higher level of physical fitness. It is advised that everyone wear layers as it can be quite cold early in the morning but one can work up a sweat as the day proceeds. A mask is mandatory. If you have work gloves, please bring them but there will be extras if needed as well as hand sanitizer. Spending time with the animals we are fighting for is not only good for your mental health and well being but it reinforces our commitment to the cause! This event will take place at 2785 Franklin Canyon Rd, Martinez, CA 94553.
- Sunday, January 31st, 11 AM: Solidarity Action: End Covid Deaths in Prison - Please note that this action was not organized by DxE but we are posting it here to amplify their reach and help boost attendance. Please RSVP on the original event page. Organized by No Justice Under Capitalism, Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice, and Critical Resistance, we are gathering on Jan 31 to demand No State Execution by COVID-19! The only humane response is to decarcerate and remedy California’s legacy of mass incarceration. Mass incarceration in California created the ideal conditions for a predictable and preventable mass outbreak of COVID-19 in state prisons. Currently, every California State Prison is responding to a wave of active cases of COVID-19. Recent major surges occurred at Ironwood State Prison, California Men’s Colony, Central California Women’s Facility, and CTF Soledad. Join in solidarity at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park at 2777 E Harbor Rd, Oakland, CA.
- Sunday, January 31st, 6 PM: Movie Night: My Octopus Teacher - Join us to enjoy a documentary about a human who becomes dear friends with an octopus with an octopus living in a South African kelp forest. Through their connection she teaches about the mysteries of her world. This is the first of our monthly movie nights, hosted on the last Saturday of every month at 6pm! Please see the event page details for Zoom link instructions.
