Dear John
As a member of the End Child Poverty coalition, Church Action on Poverty invites you to take action as part of our new campaign:
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we have all suffered, but some more than others. We are all facing the same storm, but we are not in the same boat. Families already struggling to stay afloat have been pulled deeper into poverty by unemployment, ill health or other pressures.
We must act now.
We’re asking you to contact your MP in the week leading up to Valentine’s to enlist their help to put child poverty at the heart of our recovery.
People all across the UK will be meeting their MP that week. To join them, it couldn’t be simpler.
This is our opportunity to offer a lifeline. Not just a short-term fix – but changes in how society works to transform the lives of children for good.
We all want a society where all our children have enough to eat, somewhere safe and warm to sleep, the chance to fully participate in a good education and pursue the things they love.
It’s not OK that nearly one in three children may not have these basics of a decent life. Or that millions of children are forced to live with the shame of poverty and a lack of choices.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
The Government can act to put child poverty at the heart of its plans and policies. It can choose to support the public services that we all rely on and provide a vital lifeline for families facing difficult times.
This Valentine’s, you can help end child poverty
Join with neighbours and friends and meet your local MP online between 8 and 14 February.
In the lead-up to Valentine’s Day, tell your MP why the Government must put ending child poverty at the heart of its spending and policy plans.
If you do take part, please let us know how it goes so that we can share your feedback with other supporters of Church Action on Poverty.
Best wishes
Liam Purcell
