Maite Alberdi's latest documentary, The Mole Agent, broadcasts tonight on POV on PBS (check local listings). Tune in for the film that Indiewire called "the most heartwarming spy movie ever made" and that Documentary Magazine declared is "in a class by itself." Follow as 83-year-old Sergio, a first-time spy (the "worst spy ever," according to Alberdi), is sent off to a nursing home in Santiago, Chile where he's to infiltrate the place's sordid secrets. However, in the midst of his mission, he learns some valuable lessons about friendship and kindness instead. The Mole Agent is Chile's submission to the Oscars® and recently received a Goya nomination.
In celebration of Alberdi's latest film arriving on public media, POV is streaming her early films and interviews. With a unique sensibility for capturing the eccentricity and compassion of the everyday, Alberdi's documentaries have a style that's distinctly her own, revealing the sprawling inner lives of the small-scale worlds she films.
