Folks,
Today the Senate received articles of impeachment against Donald Trump for his role in inciting the violent insurrection that took place in our nation's capital on January 6th.
Though the trial won't begin for a few weeks, I want to share with you my thoughts on impeachment and my plan to vote to convict.
Every elected official in our country takes an oath when sworn into office. In that oath, we swear to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States -- not a party, or a person, but a document that encompasses the vision our founders built our democratic government on.
Donald Trump has betrayed that oath. By lying about election fraud, attempting to undermine the legal votes of millions of Americans, and inciting violence against lawmakers and the federal government -- Donald Trump has proven that his loyalty was never to the Constitution; it is only to himself.
Donald Trump had quite literally hundreds of opportunities to ease tensions and encourage a peaceful transfer of power. Instead, he chose to use his supporters as pawns in his desperate attempt to hold onto power, and five lives were lost as a result of his actions.
My focus now is on healing the deep divisions in our country so that we can move forward together. But the truth is, healing cannot begin without accountability. The people who knowingly spread misinformation, undermined trust in our free and fair elections, and called for violence against our government must be held responsible.
Stand with me on demanding accountability.

Donald Trump is no longer president, but the dangerous and damaging effects of Trumpism will be felt for years to come. That's why it's essential that we hold responsible the person who created these fissures and set a clear example that political violence and authoritarianism will not be tolerated.
If we do what is right, we can heal the divisions in our communities, strengthen our democratic institutions, and prevent another authoritarian from rising. For the future of our country, we cannot afford to miss this moment.
As always, I am honored to represent you, and I will continue to keep you informed throughout this process. Thank you and be well.
