See the latest data » Wednesday, Jan. 27 Join The Carter Center and the United Arab Emirates to celebrate 30 years of partnership and the announcement of a major gift aimed at helping us finish the job of eradicating Guinea worm once and for all! Only one other human disease (smallpox) has ever been eradicated, but we and our dedicated partners are pushing hard to make Guinea worm the second. Watch the live event at 9 a.m. EST » Thursday, Jan. 28 The Carter Center and a host of other global organizations and governments will join with the World Health Organization in launching the WHO’s new NTD Road Map. Register for the event » The Road Map is a 10-year plan for the control, elimination, or even eradication of 20 diseases that cause massive unnecessary suffering. Dr. Kashef Ijaz, the Carter Center’s vice president of health programs, reflects on this work in a new blog. Saturday, Jan. 30 We’ll observe the second annual World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day, an event created to bring attention to the accelerated effort to improve health for vulnerable populations. From Tokyo to London, Abu Dhabi to Atlanta, some of the world’s most iconic landmarks will light up to raise awareness for this international cause. The Center plans to illuminate at least eight sites.
