To achieve long term progress on the many policy issues we care about, Americans must have a democracy that responds to the needs and priorities of voters – not wealthy donors and corporate special interests.
Right now, we have a chance to make that vision a reality. In order to bring about a more equitable democracy, our administration and Congress must support immediate passage of the For The People Act (H.R. 1). It’s a once-in-a-generation democracy package to clean up our political system, expand and protect voting rights, get big money out of politics, end partisan gerrymandering, hold elected officials accountable for corruption, and create a democracy that values all Americans equally.
These pro-democracy measures are key to addressing the issues we face as a nation, including the pursuit of justice and equality for all amid a harrowing pandemic. Congress needs to pass the For the People Act to move our country forward so that we begin to live up to our nation’s highest democratic ideals.
Together, we can build the support we need to transform our democracy into one that truly represents the American people.
