On Thursday, it was reported that Pakistan successfully flight tested a Shaheen III surface-to-surface ballistic missile. The test took place in the Northern Arabian Sea with the purpose of revalidating various design and tech parameters of the missile.

On Friday, the U.S. Senate approved Lloyd Austin as the next Secretary of Defense. A retired four-star general, Austin served as leader of U.S. Central Command and spent over 40 years in the U.S. Army.

Also on Friday, it was announced that the Missile Defense Agency awarded a contract to Northrop Grumman for the development of a prototype satellite for the Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor. This announcement comes just a week after L3Harris received a contract for the project and the companies are set to deliver prototypes in 2023. 

On Saturday, the U.S. and NATO conducted the year’s first joint maritime and air training mission in the Black Sea. The test included the USS Donald Cook and is part of the ongoing integration of air and maritime defense units by U.S. European Command.

Also on Saturday, it was reported that Saudi Arabia had intercepted a missile or drone over the capital of Riyadh. Following the interception, Houthi officials claimed they were not responsible for the attack.
