Friends,
We are two weeks into the 2021 General Assembly session, and House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn has not yet assigning three important Green New Deal bills—and one resolution—to committee.
Is this what democracy looks like in Virginia? Bills written by and for the people not even being considered? No chance for a fair and open debate?
It’s time to call Speaker Filler-Corn at (804) 698-1041 to urge her to assign the following bills to committee so that they can be considered by the House of Delegates:
HB1937—Del. Sam Rasoul’s Green New Deal Act would commit Virginia to a just transition to a 100% clean, renewable energy grid that leaves no fossil fuel worker or environmental justice community behind.
HB2292—Del. Mark Cole’s Fossil Fuel Moratorium Bill would protect ratepayers from funding new dirty energy projects that will only escalate the climate crisis while putting our environment and communities at risk for pollution.
HB1755—Del. Lee Carter’s Repeal Right to Work Bill would repeal a major obstacle to labor union formation in Virginia. Unions are imperative to a just recovery after the pandemic and a just transition to renewable energy and electric transportation.
HJ599—Del. Elizabeth Guzman’s resolution to declare a climate emergency would commit the General Assembly to addressing the climate crisis with urgency.
Call Speaker Filler-Corn at (804) 698-1041 TODAY to make sure these bills are assigned to committee.
Yours in action,
