I am pleased to report that one of President Biden’s first official actions upon taking office last week was to restore the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals -- or DACA -- program that hundreds of thousands of Dreamers rely on in Illinois and across the country.
DACA is a lifeline -- but it’s only a first step. I have been working to pass the Dream Act for two decades now, and I am making it my top priority again in the new Democratic-led Senate.
Dreamers were brought to this country as children -- and they have made their lives here in America as parents, teachers, essential workers, little league coaches, neighbors, and friends.
They should never have to fear being deported from the only home they have ever known.
That’s why it is urgent that Congress takes immediate action to permanently protect Dreamers.
