NEW YORK TIMES: "The House is poised to deliver to the Senate on Monday its article of impeachment charging former President Donald J. Trump with 'incitement of insurrection.' At 7 p.m., the House impeachment managers will march the charge across the Capitol."
The Washington Post reports that 62 senators "support" or are "open to" impeachment, 28 "oppose" impeachment, and 10 are "unknown." 67 votes are needed to convict Trump and disqualify him from ever again holding federal office.
Public pressure is crucial right now.
Trump's alleged plot with the Justice Department official was part of what's now being called "the Big Lie" that led up to the violent insurrection at the Capitol that left 5 people dead.
Republican Liz Cheney explained during the House impeachment process, "The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President. The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not.”
The Washington Post editorial board agrees: "The known scale of Mr. Trump’s offense already qualifies him for severe punishment, and the danger he poses to American civic life is too substantial to ignore...The Senate must convict him quickly."
