Bleeding is news. Healing should be too
.

That's the takeaway from a commentary by our new executive director Mike McCabe about how a small town rose to the occasion in the aftermath of an ugly incident. The incident made national and even international news. The community's response, not so much. Central figures in this story are two members of We Are Many-United Against Hate's advisory board—Arno Michaelis and Pardeep Kaleka—and their remarkable Serve2Unite collaboration. Arno and Pardeep were in Wausau the other day to share their inspiring story and were guests on Wisconsin Public Radio's "Central Time" program before visiting Wausau East High School.

It's difficult if not impossible to overstate the importance of what Mike highlighted in his commentary and what leaders like Arno and Pardeep are doing. Look no further than this. As you can see, no part of the country is immune. Hate hits close to home. Racine was the sight of a hate crime in recent days.

As is the case with the climate crisis, it's so often young people who are leading us out of darkness. The Green Card Voices initiative is an example that's worth your time to check out. You won't be sorry you did, as you'll find youth stories that put a human face on the current immigration debate. There's even a book of these stories from students in Milwaukee and Madison high schools. These aren't the only voices of reason. Another great resource is HOPE Not Hate's "Ctrl Alt-Right Delete" newsletter shining light on extremism and online toxicity.

We Are Many-United Against Hate is proud to be among those working to counter rising division, fear, hate and violence in our society. For those active on social media, we now are on Twitter and also share news regularly on Facebook. Find us and follow us there if you aren't already doing so. We'll keep the news coming, and not just about the bleeding, but about healing too.
