Dear Friend, Last week, we rejoiced when President Biden and Vice President Harris announced sweeping changes to our nation’s immigration laws that gave so many of our families immediate relief from the fear of deportation. We celebrated with each other as we witnessed the fruits of our organizing, our deportation defense, and our sanctuary work come to bear with the new administration’s proposed legislation that lays out a pathway to citizenship for millions, the end of the Muslim ban, reinstates Defererred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and a deportation moratorium. For years I was undocumented - and then DACAmented. I have waited for this moment anxiously to leverage the power of the immigrant community and I am ready. The time has come to fight for a pathway to citizenship. Not only for myself, but also for my family and community. As people of faith, we know that the last week’s victories are just the floor and not the ceiling of what is possible in creating the beloved community. This fall we shared with each other our fears, our longings, and our dreams to cast a vision for LA RED and our work. In those listening sessions I heard what me and my family also long for: family unity, freedom, and belonging. So today, with partners, we are launching a national campaign called We Are Home, to ensure that Congress passes legislation and budgets that hold sacred family unity, create a world of belonging, and ensure the freedom and liberation of all people. The 2021 goals of the We Are Home Campaign are: - Undo the cruelty of the Trump Administration
- Build a new immigration system that is fair, humane and functional
- Create a roadmap to citizenship
