As we look ahead to a new chapter, we are excited to present the 2021 People’s Platform, a guide to the LGBTQ-affirming policies we are advocating for this year. Our goals include legislation that protects renters, combats discriminatory policing, improves our state’s understanding of how New Yorkers are affected by hate crimes, and more. And we’re already seeing some exciting movement! 

A bill to repeal the “Walking While Trans” ban, a discriminatory criminal statute that has been used to harass and arrest trans women of color, will likely be voted on in New York’s Senate and Assembly this week. The fact that the bill has made it to this point is due to the continued leadership of Black and Brown trans, gender nonconforming, and nonbinary advocates, and those who have been directly impacted by the statute.
