Friend --

Last week we celebrated as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office. This week we take action through zoom calls, petitions, and support hotlines to ensure that our new administration aids the millions of people suffering from the pandemic. How can you help? Look below!

1. We need a living wage! Demand that Congress Pass a $15 Minimum Wage in the First 100 Days <[link removed]> of the Biden-Harris Presidency.

This pandemic has hit hard. From water shut-offs and evictions, to record poverty and food shortage, millions of families have struggled to make ends meet. With vaccine rollout slow but hopeful, now more than ever we need Congress to raise the minimum wage to $15 in North Carolina.

The new Biden-Harris administration brings hope, and we need to make sure they meet the needs of the people by demanding they raise the minimum wage. Join us and our friends at Fight for $15 to demand Congress pass a $15 minimum wage in the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration: [link removed] <[link removed]>

2. Getting the Inside Scoop on Covid Vaccines

Confusion and skepticism are common reactions to the new Covid vaccines, so our Race and Gender Equity (RAGE) Initiative is holding a zoom call at 7pm on January 26, to address the many facts and concerns. Our panel, led by Dr. Michelle Laws, will address your health questions to make sure the vaccine is right for your and your family! Now is the time to be in the know: Use this zoom link to join us at 7pm on Jan 26! <[link removed]>

3. Are you at risk of eviction?

Call our Tenant Organizing Resource Center (TORC) hotline if you need help fighting an eviction, rent and relocation assistance, questions about health hazards in your building or regarding your lease: 704-284-7154

TORC is a tenant led project that provides tenants' resources with the goal of influencing housing policies and providing higher protection to renters in NC. TORC works both statewide and locally to address the needs of tenant communities.

At this point in the season, we are tired but hopeful that 2021 will bring more health and stability into all of our lives. Our fight is far from over, but we have reached a major hurdle, and now it is the time to rest, recoup, sign a petition, join our zoom call, and tell your friends about our hotline.
