Friend, For years, the General Assembly has failed to address the epidemic of gun violence while handcuffing local officials from taking action to save the lives of their constituents. They have prevented local elected officials from passing even the most common sense gun violence prevention protections like requiring lost and stolen guns to be reported or banning firearms from municipal buildings. We’re not standing for it. Last year, we joined with the CIty of Philadelphia and survivors to sue the state. If the General Assembly won’t act, local officials should be allowed to. Join Scranton Mayor Cognetti, CeaseFirePA's Executive Director, and the Public Interest Law Center's Ben Geffen for a lunch time discussion on February 2nd about the dangers of preemption, the legal path to safer communities, and what local officials can do to address the violence in their communities. RSVP Today WHAT: Empowering Local Communities to End Gun Violence webinar WHEN: Feb 2, 2021 12:00 PM WHERE: Your living room via Zoom Webinar The lawsuit we filled takes direct aim at the firearm preemption law in Pennsylvania. We are asking the court to declare that the state government has violated Pennsylvanians’ right to life under the Pennsylvania Constitution, and to vacate this law so that municipalities may implement sensible measures to prevent gun violence. I hope you will join us and learn more about what we are doing to end the firearm preemption law and find out how you can help. Sincerely, Adam Garber CeaseFirePA Education Fund Executive Director | |
