Friday, The New York Times exposed that Trump plotted with a high-ranking
loyalist in the Justice Department to oust the acting attorney general and
use the department’s power to force Georgia state lawmakers to overturn
its presidential election results.

According to the Times, the scheme was only foiled when the entire
remaining top leadership at the Justice Department unanimously agreed they
would resign if the plot went ahead -- and Trump became convinced that the
resulting press coverage would overshadow his lies election fraud.

The House's impeachment will be sent to the Senate tomorrow. Trump's trial
has been scheduled to start the week of February 8.

Trump's alleged plot with the Justice Department official was part of
what's now being called "the Big Lie" that led up to the violent
insurrection at the Capitol that left 5 people dead.

Republican Liz Cheney explained during the House impeachment process, "The
President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and
lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None
of this would have happened without the President. The President could
have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did
not.”

The Washington Post editorial board agrees: "The known scale of Mr.
Trump’s offense already qualifies him for severe punishment, and the
danger he poses to American civic life is too substantial to ignore...The
Senate must convict him quickly."
