Friend --
The Ranked Choice Voting Act (HR 4464) was just introduced in Congress this week. The Act would make our elections fairer, more efficient, and more representative for all congressional primaries and general elections.
The Act would require that all U.S. House and Senate elections be conducted with ranked choice voting beginning in 2022. It would also replace all congressional runoff elections.
Ranked Choice Voting:
- Gives voters more power at the ballot box.
- Allows voters to choose the candidate they like best without helping elect the candidate they like the least.
- Ends plurality elections, where candidates receive less than half of the vote total.
- Ends expensive runoff elections where voters must return to the polls twice, costing taxpayers more money.
-
Incentivizes positive campaigning and is a first step in
remedying our divisive politics.
We're working closely with congressional backers and a growing national reform coalition to push this legislation along, but we need your help.
TAKE ACTION: Email your member of Congress and ask them to support the Ranked Choice Voting Act.
It’s an exciting time to have both the Ranked Choice Voting Act and the Fair Representation Act now introduced in Congress. Please join us on this journey to give voters more power and more choice in our elections.
Best,

PS - In case you missed it, FairVote sponsored a YouGov poll, covered by Vox Media, that features a national ranked choice voting poll of the Democratic presidential field. Plus, Maine adopted ranked choice voting for the 2020 presidential election. Ranked choice voting is on the move for local, state and national elections across the country.
