In recent weeks, it's become abundantly clear that the GOP will do whatever it takes to hold on to what little power they have left -- even if it means undermining our democracy. It shouldn't come as a surprise that the chairman of the Texas Republican Party is openly calling on his party to draw skewed maps during 2021 redistricting.

Texas is one of the top states the NDRC and our affiliates will focus on as we advocate for fair districts in 2021, for several reasons:

1. Texas is gaining more congressional districts. Thanks to significant population growth, Texas is poised to gain as many as three congressional seats this year. With Democrats holding such a slim majority in the U.S. House, we can't allow Republicans to draw these seats in their favor.
2. These new maps will remain in place for ten years. We've already lived under one decade of gerrymandering-produced GOP obstruction. We can't afford another.
3. Texas is trending blue. Texas is seeing much of the same population growth that helped Democrats sweep Georgia's statewide elections this year. But with gerrymandering, Texas Republicans could draw maps that allow them to win a majority of elections, even when they only win a minority of votes. That's exactly what the GOP did in states like Wisconsin and Michigan to hold on to power.

We can't allow Texas Republicans to draw manipulated maps that dilute the voting power of communities of color and keep extreme politicians in office. That's why the NDRC and our affiliates will be working at every turn to secure a fair, transparent redistricting process in every state. Can you chip in to help?
