When the rich and powerful built our current political system, they created it so the rich and powerful would stay in charge. It’s that simple. This is why it’s so hard for political outsiders to break through and make it to Congress.
It shouldn’t be this way. Politics should be about representing the will of the people by electing the candidates who best represent their community’s values and interests. What legislators vote for shouldn’t be whatever corporate PACs and special interest lobbyists want it to be.
And this past year proves how important it is to truly have representative politics. We need legislators who will fight to protect Roe v. Wade and the Affordable Care Act from Trump's extremist Supreme Court. We need legislators who pay their fair share of taxes. We need legislators who will fight tooth and nail for working families—even if it goes against the wishes of wealthy donors and corporate PACs.
