Tell Congress: Provide permanent protections and a roadmap to citizenship for all immigrants! Photo: Carl Roose/AFSC.

Dear John,

A new administration has begun in Washington, D.C. As the country faces one of the most difficult moments in our history, it is time for leadership that listens to the people; works to promote peace, health, and safety for all; and demonstrates the honesty, decency, and compassion we all deserve.

We’re energized to keep working with you, and our elected officials, for a future where the rights and dignity of all are respected. Today, we have a simple way to help. Join us today to tell Congress: Provide permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship for all immigrants!

Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

Biden’s immigration actions explained: Soon after taking office, President Joe Biden signed several executive orders to dismantle some of the harmful policies enacted by the previous administration—including ending the Muslim ban. AFSC’s Tori Bateman explains what this means for immigrant communities.

Two webinars this week: Sign up for the Jan. 26 online launch of our Under the Mask project, which tracks abuses of power by governments around the world in the context of the pandemic. Register for our Jan. 28 webinar “The politics of COVID-19 and vaccination under Israeli occupation,” which will provide you with information on the current situation in Palestine and what you can do to help bring change.

How to talk about ending prisons and detention centers: Most of us know that incarceration does not keep us safe, but how do we talk about transforming our current criminal punishment system with those who may not know what to do instead? Use these tips from a recent national study conducted by AFSC to help you shape your advocacy or outreach.

Making migration even harder: Listen to our “Under the Mask” podcast to hear from AFSC’s Luis Paiz Bekker, Kerri Kennedy, and Douglas about the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on migration in Mexico and Central America. (Spotify)

Thank you to everyone who has answered our call for new Partners for Peace! Steady supporters like you play a critical role in helping us respond when urgent situations arise. We’re still looking for new partners. Sign up by Jan. 31 to help us meet our goal.
