Dear John,
The term “climate justice” has become quite popular recently. It’s used a lot! But what does “climate justice” really mean? And when we use the term, are we really upholding the principles of climate justice? Because despite its recent popularity, climate justice is not a new term.
The ideas that underpin climate justice in its original sense have been developed over decades by social movements such as environmental justice, trade justice and peasant movements. Key climate justice concepts such as ”climate debt” and “equity” have been developed and refined, largely by movements in the Global South - often with pushback from the Global North.
With that in mind, I’m organising a casual discussion event to explore the meaning of climate justice together.
Will you join this discussion on 1st February at 18.30?
Yes, I'll join!
We’ll watch some videos about climate justice and discuss together what they mean for how we act on climate change in Ireland. It will be a welcoming event for us all to learn together. I’d love to get a good idea of participant numbers in advance - as it will inform how we organise the discussion. So please do register today if you’d like to attend.

Ahead of our discussion, you might like to pique your interest by watching some videos from a recent global gathering for climate justice organised by the CoP26 coalition. Some of the webinars from that gathering can be viewed on their Youtube channel - they also have a wider selection of videos from the gathering on their Facebook page here.

Looking forward to seeing you on 1st February.
