Can archaeology address people’s beliefs based on what they left behind? This course addresses the problem of discovering ancient religion using archaeology. Several holy sites will be analyzed, mainly associated with Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and how each tradition deals with archaeology and religion.

JERUSALEM DURING THE MUSLIM ERA

Begins November 14 for 5 weeks

Continue the discussion of religion and sacred sites in Jerusalem with Saeed Kahn. After the initial transition class, with both Dr. Pytlik and Mr. Kahn, we will examine how Jerusalem developed during the Muslim era of the 7th Century CE onward to contemporary time by covering four major eras. You do not need to take The Archaeology of Religion to enjoy this class.
