Dignity & Power Now

Dear Dignity and Power Now Community,

We have very exciting news! At Dignity and Power Now (DPN), we are looking to expand our team. The following positions are open:

DPN is a multifaceted, trauma-informed, healing-motivated movement organization. Our mission is to build a Black and Brown-led abolitionist movement rooted in community power towards the goal of achieving transformative justice and healing justice for all incarcerated people, their families, and communities. Ultimately, our goal is to end state violence and mass incarceration.

At DPN, we have built a family-like culture that centers the leadership of community members impacted by incarceration.

We'd love for you to share these job postings with people in your community who you think may fit at Dignity and Power Now. A little bit more about us: We are a community of people who are impacted by state harm and hold a shared abolitionist vision. We lead with our hearts and values. We're working to build a world that centers Black liberation, queer liberation, racial justice, economic justice, and gender equity.

Our organization is Black and Brown led. Many of us are formerly incarcerated, queer, femme, from working-class backgrounds. Some of us are undocumented, we come from a variety of faith backgrounds, and many of us are system-impacted. And while these identities are critical to our work at DPN, we also know that we are more than our identities: we’re a team united in fighting for a more just, safe, and liberated world.

Our work had its genesis in Los Angeles, visioned and birthed by founder Patrisse Cullors, and expanded by the leadership of a variety of community organizers and healers. Our principled Campaigns Team engages in advocacy at the LA County level, the California state level, and the national level. We focus our advocacy on alternatives to incarceration, budget advocacy, and pretrial policy.

Our visionary Programs Team is made up of strong grassroots leadership. Organizers from this team lead Forever Rooted, a program for adults returning home after being incarcerated in prison. They also lead the Dandelion Rising Leadership Institute, a program that supports youth in their resistance to state violence. We practice the values of healing justice through our Building Resilience program, a cohort of healers dedicated to providing healing justice resources and experiences to those impacted by state violence.

In addition to DPN’s programs and campaigns, we're so grateful to participate in a number of values-aligned coalitions focused on abolishing state harm and investing in care and dignity for impacted communities. We support as an anchor for the JusticeLA coalition and are also involved in many other coalitions, such as Reform LA Jails, the Media Justice Network and CURB

We’re connected to national liberation struggles through our get-out-the-vote work with Black Futures Lab and to work in other cities and states, such as in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where DPN Philly staff have led District Attorney accountability work and electoral justice work.

To move this meaningful work forward, we’re looking forward to having skilled and passionate people join our team. Applications for the positions we currently have open are due on January 15th, 2021. We’re so grateful that you’re considering getting to know us at Dignity and Power Now and are interested in investing in our work.
