Dear Friends,

On Wednesday, January 27, we invite you to join the National Religious Campaign Against Torture and our friends at the ICNA Council for Social Justice for a webinar on closing Guantanamo. We will give an update on the 40 detainees still held in Guantanamo, and discuss how President Biden can move forward with closing the prison and ending the indefinite detention without trial of those held there.

What: Guantanamo: Still Locked Up (a webinar)
When: Wednesday, January 27, at 12 pm ET
Who: Speakers include Rev. Ron Stief, NRCAT Executive Director; Matt Hawthorne, NRCAT Policy Director; Kathy Manley, Legal Director for the Coalition for Civil Freedoms, and Lina Bhati the event host from ICNA.
How to join: Tune in at https://icnacsj.org/live/

On January 11, 2021, we marked the shameful 19th anniversary of the opening of Guantanamo prison, a place where the U.S. engaged in torture and other human rights abuses. Soon, we expect President Biden to commit the U.S. government to closing Guantanamo.

Join us to explore how we can support President Biden in closing the prison at Guantanamo and how we can advocate for the new Democratic majority in both houses of Congress to pass legislation in 2021 that will ease the restrictions on transferring the detainees out and finally close the prison.

In hope,

Rev. Ron Stief
Executive Director
