On this day in 1973, the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade and upheld the constitutional right to abortion nation-wide.
But 48 years later, we are still fighting for the right to choose.

Anti-choice groups and extremist politicians continue to do everything they can to roll back the clock on reproductive rights, from attempted abortion bans to lawsuits attacking Roe v. Wade . And for the past four years, Donald Trump and conservative politicians appointed as many anti-choice judges as they could.

Women across our country fall victim to a patchwork of state and local laws that often leave abortion inaccessible in rural towns, communities of color, and poor neighborhoods.

It’s unacceptable. Now that we have a Democratic majority in Washington, we can strengthen our commitment to reproductive justice and ensure Republicans keep their hands off Roe v. Wade.

In 1967, Colorado became the first state to legalize abortion — six years before Roe v. Wade . I am also a co-sponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would protect the right to abortion at a federal level.
