Dear Jack,
Donald Trump incited the white supremacist attack on the United States Capitol and our democracy, but he didn't do it alone. Facebook and YouTube have blood on their hands, too.
The threat isn't over—white supremacists are continuing to plan violent attacks and spread dangerous lies across social media.
Add your name to UltraViolet's petition to tell Facebook and YouTube: Ban Donald Trump permanently and suspend all right-wing extremist accounts spreading lies and calling for further attacks on your platforms.

Jack, we've been raising the alarm for years. Trump and other right-wing extremists use social media to reach millions of people to spread their misogynist and racist hate, as well as conspiracy theories and blatant lies.1
Long before Trump was even elected, social media companies empowered him and his supporters, both in Congress and online, along with white supremacist and misogynistic groups like QAnon and the Proud Boys. Social media companies laid the groundwork for the violence we're facing today by recruiting, amplifying disinformation, and letting extremists organize on their platforms.
That's why thousands of UltraViolet members have spoken out time and time again, demanding that social media companies stop hate and disinformation from circulating on their platforms and leading to violence and deaths.2
After the white supremacist attack on the Capitol, Facebook took a few baby steps to temporarily mute Trump, and YouTube recently followed. But this temporary slap on the wrist, after years of amplifying his hate that led to bloodshed and loss of life at the Capitol, isn't nearly enough. And today, viral right-wing extremists are still spreading lies about the election and inflaming calls for further violence on their platforms.
Right now, Black, Indigenous, and other women of color are fearing for their safety, as Trump loyalists continue to plan attacks in the lead up to Inauguration Day and beyond. Social media companies need to take urgent action to mute hateful violence before more people are hurt.

Jack, this has been a terrifying few weeks, but we know that together we can move forward and win lasting change. Against all odds, Black and Indigenous women, and other women of color have won historic victories to set us up for a brighter future.
With new Democratic power in the White House and Congress, we're ready to hold Facebook, YouTube, and other big tech companies accountable for the death and destruction they've sowed. But right now, will you join us and demand these companies take action to prevent further bloodshed now?
