Friends,
This week, I pushed back against early actions from the Biden Administration that would hurt jobs and American energy independence. I also was named to two key subcommittees on the Energy and Commerce Committee, visited with some of the National Guard troops stationed in Washington, D.C., and visited a COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Houston.
Please reach out to my offices if you have a concern, want to hear what we’re working on in Congress, or are having trouble with a federal agency. I have a full team in Texas and in the nation's capital ready to assist you. Be sure to stay up to date by following me on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
Sincerely,

PUSHING BACK AGAINST BIDEN'S FIRST EXECUTIVE ORDERS
President Biden's day-1 agenda is troublesome, especially for our energy sector. His decision to rejoin the Paris climate accord, cancel the Keystone XL permit, and ban drilling on federal lands will do little to help the environment, but will significantly harm good-paying energy jobs in Texas and across the country.
On Keystone alone, $884 million in revenue going to Texas in just one year would be lost, along with 8,000 union jobs in Texas and 11,000 jobs overall in our state.
We can protect the environment without destroying jobs, our energy independence, and our economy. These executive orders put Texas energy workers last, and I'll continue to push back on any effort to undermine jobs and the economy in our community.

MY SELECTION TO THE HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT SUBCOMMITTEES ON ENERGY AND COMMERCE
I'm proud to announce that I have been selected to two key subcommittees on the Energy and Commerce Committee - the Health Subcommittee and the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee.
Providing Americans with personalized, affordable health care that puts the patient - not the federal government - in the driver seat and protects American medical innovation has been a top priority for me since I was elected to Congress. My focus on health care has only heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic that has put an unprecedented burden on our health care sector in Houston and across America. I look forward to addressing this challenge and working towards these priorities for Houston and the country on the Health Subcommittee.
Advancing commonsense, innovative solutions to climate change has also been a key policy priority for me since day one. Americans are sick and tired of a false choice of inaction or economy crushing regulations when it comes to reducing emissions. We can protect the environment and our economy and America's energy independence all at the same time, and I look forward to helping show that is possible on the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee.

FEATURED PHOTOS
This week, I met with the hardworking people at the LBJ COVID Vaccine Clinic in Houston. The staff there are working hard to deliver the COVID-19 vaccine to our community, which is the best way we can protect our community from the pandemic, reopen our economy, and get back to normal.
Thanks to the clinic staff for taking the time to meet with me and for all you're doing to keep Houston healthy and safe from this pandemic.
I also met with National Guard troops who were stationed in Washington, D.C. It was great to hangout with these Guardsmen and it turned out that many of us were in Afghanistan at the same time. They kept the Capitol and everyone who works there safe, and they deserve our thanks for doing their duty well.
A quick update on the controversy surrounding National Guard troops sleeping in parking garages: The bottom line is that when you send 25,000 troops to a city and don’t plan logistics very well, it’s going to be difficult to find space for them in between shifts. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer should have thought about that, and pre-planned comfortable spaces with restrooms available. But it also appears the issue has been resolved, and no one is hanging out in garages anymore. At the end of shift work, soldiers sleep in hotels or nearby bases. No one was ever spending the night in garages.
