President-Elect Biden named my good friend Congresswoman Deb Haaland to be his Secretary of the Interior.

She will be the FIRST ever Native American Cabinet Secretary. I have no doubt she will be an amazing advocate for America’s public lands and will diligently uphold U.S. treaties with Tribal Nations.

When I passed the Land Grant-Mercedes bill to protect our public lands in the House, Deb was right there with me.

When I worked to secure funding for our national parks, Deb helped me along the way.

Deb Haaland's nomination needs to be approved by the Senate before it's official.

I know firsthand her commitment to the sanctity of our public lands because, like me, she has spent her entire career defending them.

But McConnell and Senate Republicans have spent years degrading our national parks, public lands, and relationships with Tribal Nations.

They know Rep. Haaland will finally hold them accountable, and they could try to block her nomination.

I've watched Republicans prioritize oil profits over our public lands.

I've watched them try to build a border wall through sacred lands.

I've watched them strip $480 million from our National Park Service.

But with Deb in the Interior, she will put an end to these injustices.

Now that I've officially been sworn in to the Senate, I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure her nomination is successful.
