Friend —
On Wednesday
many breathed a sigh of relief with the departure of Trump, a brazenly
authoritarian, racist President, and welcomed Joe Biden as the "vanguard against
fascism."
However, with Biden declaring "nothing will
fundamentally change," and already walking back on promises for
student loan debt forgiveness and COVID relief checks, we can't go
back to brunch and expect everything to work
out.
At best, Biden
will maintain the status quo if we're not making clear
demands for $15/HR minimum wage, Medicare for All, or
abolishing ICE. This is not a time for us to sit back and relax,
rather, we need to double down on our demands for a better
world.
If you're ready to take steps toward demanding justice
and equity for all, join
DSA and get involved in the chapter. Check

On Monday,
the Landis
for Board of Police Commissioners campaign (a
civilian oversight board for Detroit Police) had their MLK Trivia
fundraiser featuring multiple categories and rounds about the man
himself, Detroit activists and organizers, and even your favorite
Motown artists. The evening ended in a tie-breaker between two members
for first place—both candidates got the correct answer, but one DSA
member wagered the whole pot securing their win of the grand prize,
a Socialist Night In!
We raised over $1,000 for Landis'
campaign. Every dollar means we can reach more people
here in Detroit and bring back true civilian oversight of the Detroit
Police Department.

missed the trivia night, but want to donate, you can do so here: www.landis4bopc.com/donate

Defund the Police, Refund Detroit: Community
Budget Priorities Virtual Forum Dates Dependent on Your
District
On March 5, Mayor Duggan will present Detroit City
Council members with a fiscal year 2022 budget that will increase
funding to the Detroit Police Department while defunding crucial
departments like Health, Housing, and Transportation. It is beyond
time that the city budget prioritizes ways to actually meet the
immediate needs of Detroit's working class rather than protecting and
further enriching the politicians and billionaires.
WHAT YOU CAN DO Each City Council
member is hosting a community forum in their district to hear from you
about what you want them to prioritize. Join us at the one in your
district to make a public comment and let them know that they must
defund the police and refund Detroit!

"Sorry to Bother You presents a darkly
funny and jarring view of our modern capitalist crisis and provides
the most effective solution to solving it — the power of organized
labor protest."
