Get to Know Hoosier Jim Baird: Congressman, Combat Vet & Fall Dinner Special Guest
We're now less than three weeks away from the 2019 Team Holcomb Fall Dinner. On October 14, we're excited to host this special event where we'll honor our veterans, including our speakers -- three very brave combat vets who have made a lasting sacrifice for our nation.
We've introduced you via email over the last two weeks to Congressmen and combat veterans Dan Crenshaw and Brian Mast. And now we want to tell you more about our third speaker -- someone already very familiar to Hoosiers, Indiana's own Congressman Jim Baird.
Congressman Baird is a decorated Vietnam War veteran. During a two-and-a-half-month incursion into Laos, the Vietnamese Army hit our soldiers hard with a total of 23 convoy ambushes. Baird fought in two of the deadliest ambushes of the operation, and lost his left arm as a result.
Congressman Baird received a Bronze Star with V device and two Purple Hearts for his service. But, as you likely know, his service didn't end there. Baird put his skills to work running a home care business and a family farm in his hometown. He also served Hoosiers at the Statehouse, where he helped Indiana balance its budgets. And now he's putting those skills to use in Congress!
