People For Member, Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman saved countless lives with his heroic actions during the January 6 attempted coup at the U.S. Capitol. In recognition of his service, he’s been named acting deputy sergeant-at-arms to the Senate! Nearly 14,000 supporters have already signed our petition urging passage of a bill that’s been introduced to award Officer Goodman the Congressional Gold Medal. In addition to holding those who incited the insurrection accountable, we also need to make sure to honor our heroes and those who put their lives on the line to defend our democracy from direct attack. Please help us get to 25,000 signatures in the next 48 hours to honor Officer Goodman with the Congressional Gold Medal. Thank you for taking action! – Zach, People For the American Way ----[previous message]---- People For Member, While investigations continue into the multiple security failures that occurred during the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, there were some acts of true heroism that saved countless lives. One such act was that of Black Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman who, while facing an angry white mob of insurrectionists, led them down a hall and away from the Senate floor – where senators were in the early stages of certifying the election results. The actions of Goodman may have prevented untold atrocities from occurring.1 In recognition of Officer Goodman’s heroism, members of Congress have introduced a resolution to award him the Congressional Gold Medal – one of the highest civilian awards in the country. It may be weeks or months before we know the full scope and scale of what had been planned that day, but the need to hold those involved accountable and to prevent future attacks is of paramount importance. Let us celebrate and honor those who demonstrated the character, courage, and bravery we need in our public servants. Urge Congress to honor Officer Goodman right away>> Thanks for all that you do, Zach, People For the American Way
