The state legislative session has started, and there's a few exciting bills that could use your support!
Rep. Alex Ramel’s bill Healthy Homes, Clean Buildings, HB 1084, is one of the most impactful climate bills of this year’s legislative session. This policy would require new buildings to be carbon-free by 2030, and eliminate fossil fuels from existing buildings by 2050. That's huge! Residential and commercial buildings are one-fifth of Washington’s greenhouse gas emissions — and this sector’s emissions are growing the fastest.
Healthy Homes, Clean Buildings is scheduled for a hearing on Friday morning at 10:00am, and we want to give it the strongest start possible, with hundreds of sign-ons in support — please share this email with your friends!

- This year’s State Energy Strategy showed that electrifying buildings is the most cost-effective way to meet our carbon reduction goals and lower energy costs.
- We need to avoid further investments in gas infrastructure, which will become stranded assets as we transition to a clean energy economy.
- Keep this bill strong! Don’t let amendments or other provisions water this bill down.
The Reducing Plastic Pollution and Improving Recycling Bill (SB 5022), championed by Senator Mona Das, will have a hearing in the Washington Senate on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Please ask your members and colleagues to show support for this important bill to curb waste and plastic pollution by signing in in support on the legislative website before 9:30 am on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
The plastics crisis is inextricably linked to the climate crisis, as the fossil fuel industry continues to send feedstocks towards plastics production. Single use plastics are used momentarily, but built to last forever, and as little as 9% of all plastics ever produced have been recycled.
