John,

Yesterday, Joseph R. Biden, Jr. was sworn in as President of the United States. And only hours after being sworn in, he signed over a dozen Executive Orders, including stopping construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, halting oil & gas leasing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and recommitting the U.S. to the Paris climate agreement. Today, reports say President Biden plans to issue a pause on oil and gas leasing on federal lands, but not the ban he promised.

These are all welcomed changes, and steps in the right direction, but we need President Biden to take bolder actions to stop the worst effects of climate change. Now is not the time to “wait and see” or institute weak half-measures. It’s time to demand a new era in the climate fight by taking on the fossil fuel industry directly. The climate crisis requires stopping all new fossil fuel infrastructure and a ban on fracking.

President Biden can start by banning fracking on public lands. He can take real action to protect our environment and avert further climate chaos by banning fracking on public lands NOW — no pauses, studies or rule making necessary.

Add your name asking President Biden to protect public lands by banning fracking.

During the presidential campaign, President Biden promised to protect our public lands:

“Protecting America’s natural treasures by permanently protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and other areas impacted by President Trump’s attack on federal lands and waters, establishing national parks and monuments that reflect America’s natural heritage, banning new oil and gas permitting on public lands and waters.”

We cannot let President Biden go back on his word or allow a halfhearted attempt to protect our climate and communities. He has the power to take bold, immediate climate action by permanently banning fracking and stopping new fossil fuel extraction on public lands. Let’s start with all of us demanding change and holding the president accountable for his promises!

Join me in urging President Biden to take bold climate action by banning fracking on public lands.

Ban Fracking on Public Lands

With your support, Food & Water Watch has been leading the fight to ban fracking on public lands for years. Banning fracking and other fossil fuel extraction on public lands is overwhelmingly popular, and over 600 organizations endorse the policy. And as we bring more and more people together to demand real action against fracking, we can win and ban fracking and protect our public lands from fossil fuel extraction. But it can only be done with your help.

Take action now and demand President Biden take bold climate action and ban fracking on public lands.
