Hello —
The Supreme Court made their fateful decision in Citizens United v. FEC 11 years ago today. And every day since, I’ve been fighting to put an end to this disastrous decision and the harm it’s done to our democracy.
We all wish ideas could beat out money, but in a post-Citizens United world, the shady outside interests get their way. Millionaires, billionaires, and special interests can spend practically whatever they want to influence voters. And in doing so, they can tip the scales in favor of their allies.
Outside groups run by billionaires like the Koch network have spent outrageous sums of dark money to influence elections, and our government — spending whatever it takes to drown out the voices of the middle class, so they can make decisions behind closed doors in Washington. Enough.
I’m no stranger to taking on special interests and support overturning Citizens United to end the flood of dark money in our elections. Heck, I was the #1 target of outside money when I ran for re-election. That’s why our campaign is driven by grassroots supporters like you — because people should decide elections, not out-of-state billionaires.
Dark money groups have been undermining American democracy for well over a decade now. Add your name to join me in calling for a constitutional amendment to end Citizens United.
Thanks for standing by me on this critical issue.
