John,

With President Biden and Vice President Harris taking their oaths of office yesterday, it's official — we have a new Caregiver-in-Chief!

It also means that a unified Congress will soon get to work on President Biden's legislative priorities, including the rescue and recovery plan. So it's more important than ever that we make our voices heard and demand that family caregivers are represented in the recovery plan.

John—

Our caregiver-in-chief-to-be is already showing us what it looks like to care for our families and communities.

President-elect Biden announced his administration’s rescue and recovery plan last night, and it provides a lot of the support caregiving families need, RIGHT NOW. It signals that the incoming administration understands vital support for caregiving families is crucial to our nation’s economic recovery.

Will you join with us to thank the Biden team for starting this important work, and commit to helping as they work to get this bill passed?

Biden’s words about caregiving show he’s committed to making caregivers’ lives easier. He said: “Imagine millions of jobs in our caregiving economy to ease the financial burden of caring for young children & aging loved ones. Let’s make sure our caregivers, mostly women, women of color, & immigrants, have the pay & dignity they deserve.”

And the relief plan starts us on that path. Extending unemployment insurance and sending a new round of stimulus checks will ensure that many family caregivers and their loved ones won’t have to choose between keeping the heat on in their houses or paying for essential medications not covered by health insurance.

A well-coordinated and scaled up vaccination program will ensure that loved ones in long-term care facilities, as well as the workers who care for them daily, are safe.

This is the first step in what will be a long road toward recovery for our country, a road that must continue to include investments in care. We look forward to the additional steps President-elect Biden, the new administration, and Congress will take to ensure that caregivers are at the forefront of the Build Back Better agenda.

We are ready to help President-elect Biden and Congress ensure that families have the tools they need to survive and thrive beyond the next months by investing in home- and community-based services, extending Paid Family and Medical Leave, investing in child care, and building a caring economy that works for all of us.
