2020 was one for the books…
Dear Fellow Young Democrat,
We have made it to the end of year 2020. Despite the many hardships Hoosiers across our state faced during this year, we rose to the occasion and gave one of the most historic moments in our lifetime- all we had.
For the very first time in our state’s history, Indiana Young Democrats elected its first Afro Latina President, its first Black queer man as Vice President to serve with one of the most inclusive executive committees. We hit the ground running with a strategic plan to elevate, educate and empower young people in every corner of the state. We took back the White House with VP Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris, we helped flip the US Senate, sent our very own Hoosier Mayor Pete Buttigieg to be appointed Secretary of Transportation, and elected 3 more Young Democrats into the Indiana General Assembly.
Indiana Young Democrats create space for young people to become advocates and most importantly to be authentically themselves while changing the course of history for our state and country. I am so proud of the work we have done in 2020 and I am honored to be your Madam President.
This end of year review will not only showcase the accomplishments we achieved in 2020 but it exemplifies the youthful and strong leadership that exists in our state. It shows the dedication and commitment that young people have to our democracy, their communities, building partnerships, and how we truly want Indiana to be better for all Hoosiers.
I hope that you as a reader, share the same pride and joy that I do in this organization as we enter 2021. Here is to another year of #YoungGetsItDone, organizing our communities and restoring hope back in our democracy.
We are here. We are young and we are ready.
Wishing you the best,
Arielle Brandy
President of Indiana Young Democrats
