Since day one, Trump has worked to hand over our government to environmentally destructive corporations. And on Tuesday, this culture of corruption gained a tighter hold on the Department of the Interior.
The Senate confirmed Trump’s pick of Daniel Jorjani for Solicitor General of the Department of the Interior. Jorjani has ties to the Koch Brothers. And he has a long history of unethical actions while serving in government positions.
The Senate must be held accountable for confirming Trump’s latest corrupt nominee. Will you make your voice heard, John?
Hold the Senate accountable for handing over our government to corrupt corporate cronies!
Trump is purposefully choosing nominees that will advance corporate agendas that destroy our wild places and the cultural lands of Indigenous communities. Daniel Jorjani’s confirmation is another corporate handout that further degrades the integrity of our government.
As Solicitor General, Jorjani will be the main legal adviser to the Secretary of the Interior. He’s supposed to hold the agency accountable, managing the Department’s Ethics Office and resolving Freedom of Information Act appeals. But he has a track record as Deputy Solicitor General of doing the exact opposite.
Jorjani crafted a proposed rule change that restricted Freedom of Information Act requests by allowing the agency to arbitrarily deny requests under the guise that they are “burdensome” or “vague.” This is a huge step away from transparency in our government. And in an era where Trump’s staff are bending the laws and rules in service of the fossil fuel industry instead of the American people, it’s unacceptable.
In short, Jorjani will be nothing more than a Yes Man for Interior Secretary Bernhardt and the Trump Administration. Our legislators are supposed to protect us from the abuses of power of the Trump Administration, not confirm corporate cronies that will only make things worse. We need your help reminding the Senate that its duty is to us, not to the President and not to lying, corporate cronies.

Now more than ever we need someone who will restore the rule of law to the Department of the Interior. Jorjani is not the man for this job. He’s already shown that he will shield Trump, Bernhardt and other wrongdoers from the rule of law rather than hold them to it.
We need to put our Senators on notice that everyday people like you and me are watching. And we need them to send the message to Trump that his devastating handouts to corporations won’t fly. Will you hold your legislators accountable for confirming Trump’s corrupt nominee, John?
