On their first full day in office President Biden and Vice President Harris inherit a massive public health and COVID-related unemployment crisis.

More Americans are now dying every day from COVID-19 than were killed on 9/11. And nearly one million Americans filed new unemployment claims last week alone.

And that’s not all. Just this morning we learned that the Biden team has discovered they are inheriting a “nonexistent vaccine distribution plan” and must ‘start from scratch’.

This has been a devastating national tragedy. Now that we have real leadership we must move quickly to get it under control.

President Biden’s answer is the American Rescue Plan — a $1.9 trillion stimulus package to boost testing and vaccine capacity and stabilize the economy. Republicans have balked at this price tag but the truth is that this unprecedented crisis requires an unprecedented response. We need to go as big as we can, as quickly as we can, to defeat the virus and save our economy.

This $1.9 trillion stimulus package will immediately:

• Speed up deployment of vaccines, open federal vaccination sites and increase testing capacity across the country;


• Extend emergency unemployment benefits and increase the weekly federal payment to $400 per week;


• Raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour and expand paid family and sick leave;


• Provide an addition $1400 personal direct stimulus for eligible individuals over last month's $600 payment passed by Congress;


• Provide $350 billion to support state and local governments reeling from the heavy burden of massive COVID-related service costs.

This relief is critical to beating the pandemic and building our economy back better, but we need broad bipartisan support to get it through Congress.
