Dear Friend,

Yesterday was a new day in America. Following the Inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris, the new administration demonstrated its commitment to improving the lives of immigrants with decisive actions on Day One.

Here’s what the Biden administration accomplished yesterday:

  • Began the work of fortifying DACA
  • Repealed the Muslim and African bans

In fortifying DACA, President Biden is fulfilling his promise to restore hope to more than a million immigrant youth who call this country home. We celebrate this hard-won victory alongside our courageous plaintiffs, partners, and communities who have fought repeated attempts to end this transformative policy.

Yesterday, President Biden also repealed the Muslim and African bans, sending a message to the world that our nation is reclaiming its role as a beacon of hope. Since the day the first Muslim Ban was introduced, NILC has been working with affected individuals and challenging the bans in court, and we will keep fighting to ensure this never happens again.

We are celebrating with renewed hope and resolve, but we know the work has only begun. NILC looks forward to working with the Biden administration to implement a boldly pro-immigrant agenda that includes:

  • A pathway to U.S. citizenship for the 11 million undocumented Americans who call our nation home;
  • A robust COVID relief package that includes immigrants; and
  • Health care access for all, including access to COVID testing, treatment, and vaccines.

Friend, creating a 21st century immigration system will require everyone to do their part, from our communities to our legislators. Most importantly, your partnership and support will help ensure immigrants have a voice in this unprecedented time.

Sincerely,

Marielena Hincapié
Executive Director, National Immigration Law Center
